As the choice of light sources in stores has increased significantly, today it is definitely more difficult to make a decision than it used to be. It's definitely worth exploring the differences between LED and halogen bulbs - why are LEDs more economical and greener?

How does the lamp give light?

A halogen lamp is essentially the same as an incandescent lamp. Its main elements are a tungsten filament placed in a flask into which a gas (iodine or bromine) is added. This makes it possible to increase the temperature of the spiral, and as a result of the heat transfer of the particles, light is produced here http://max64.ru/.

In the case of an LED lamp, an electrical current passes through a diode, which begins to emit photons and produces visible light. LED stands for Light-Emitting Diode.

LED lighting is more environmentally friendly

LED lights are more environmentally friendly than halogen lights because they are many times more efficient, which means less energy consumption, which in turn means a smaller carbon footprint.

LED lights convert almost all of the electricity used into light, with only 10-20% being converted into other forms of energy. An incandescent lamp works exactly the opposite, converting only about 20% of the energy into light, while the remaining 80% is converted into heat energy. Thanks to this, the use of LED lighting will save a lot of money on energy bills, while receiving even more light than using incandescent lamps.

LED lamps do not use lead or mercury, and the LEDs used in the fixtures do not emit IR and UV radiation, so they do not affect the environment. In addition, the components used in them can be reused to a large extent.

LED lamp will last a long time

In addition to being environmentally friendly, the advantage of LED lighting is also a slight time saving. Namely, LED light sources need to be replaced quite rarely.

While the life of a halogen lamp is typically 1,000 to 2,000 hours, the life of an LED lamp is about 15,000 hours. However, if you look at LED lamps, their service life is 35,000 - 100,000 hours and even more.

It is also worth knowing the fact that, unlike fluorescent and halogen lamps, LED light sources and LED lamps have a longer life in a cool rather than a warm room. And if the life of incandescent lamps is highly dependent on the number of on and off, this is not so important for LED lamps.

How big is the payback time difference?

Of course, environmental friendliness is important today, but the payback period is also taken into account when choosing. How economical is an LED lamp compared to a halogen lamp? For example, what would be more useful and environmentally friendly for the entrance of an apartment building - to use LED or halogen lamps?

The answer is that payback must always be considered relative to something. If we look at the ROI of LED luminaires or LED lamps compared to, for example, halogen luminaires currently in use, we can say that with the same burning time, LEDs pay for themselves in about a month to a year of use. But, of course, it all depends on the exact burning time, the price of electricity, as well as the quality of the LED lamp.
